Wax Idols began in 2011 as the solo vehicle for Bay Area musician Heather Fedewa, aka Hether Fortune. Fedewa had been working as musician-around-town in the garage/punk scene, doing time as a member of Hunx & His Punx and Bare Wires for a time, and also actively working with Blasted Canyons at the time of Wax Idols' inception. The band's sound was rooted in punk, but with dark gothic undertones, material recorded mostly by Fedewa alone or with the help of various friends. Wax Idols' debut came in the form of the All Too Human 7" in 2011, followed by the full-length No Future later the same year. Fedewa enlisted the help of other Bay Area musicians Amy Rosenoff on bass, Keven Tecon on drums, and Jennifer Mundy on guitar to back her up in the live setting.
